Mayors and Cities that meet the eligibility criteria below may be entered in to the African Mayor Awards:
Cities will only be eligible to enter one of the following categories:
- Large cities: Population over 1,000,000 inhabitants
- Medium size cities: Population from 200,000 to 1,000,000 inhabitants
- Small cities: Population of up to 200,000 inhabitants

Les maires peuvent déposer leur candidature pour une seule catégorie :
- Grande ville: Population supérieure à 1 000 000 d’habitants
- Ville moyenne: Population entre 200 000 et 1 000 000 d’habitants
- Petite ville: Population jusqu’à 200 000 habitants
Os Presidentes para Presidente de Câmara, Governadores, Administradores Municipais e Equiparados das Cidades Africanas que satisfaçam os critérios de elegibilidade a seguir enunciados poderão concorrer aos Prémios "Presidente José Eduardo dos Santos":
As cidades só poderão concorrer numa das seguintes categorias:
- Grandes cidades: População superior a 1 000 000 de habitantes
- Médias cidades: População de 200 000 a 1 000 000 de habitantes
- Pequenas cidades: População até 200 000 habitantes
